Best of week: Consilience

Umm.........to be honest, the article we are reading, Consilience by Edward O. Wilson, is really really really (time one hundred) boring. But truly, it's interesting. Well, that doesn't make any sense. Boring but interesting? The meaning of consilience in this article is unity of science and art. It is kind of hard to understand. Science and art? Like Mr. Allen said, in GBS, art and science is really far away. I am more like a science person, I never even go to the art class area of the school.

Blogging around

Review of Yesenia D's Captured thought: Poetry

I strongly agree with this post because that was how I felt when we read E.E Cumming's poems. I feel better that she felt the same thing as me. E.E. Cummings' poem were very different from what I have read and we learned throughout the course. It was hard for me to understand the poem at first becasue it has too much meanings to it. But sure, I had fun with them. The poems made me think a lot and it was fun to learn his many styles and certain rule to read his poem. I am glad that Yesenia enjoyed the E.E Cumming's poem too. And through the E.E Cumming's poems, we could expand our knowledge to the poetry.

Yesenia's main idea was how she didn't like the poetry before we learn more into them, but throughout the E.E Cumming poems, she actually liked the poems of E.E Cummings a lot. She also wrote about how she enjoyed the depth of the poetries and E.E Cumming's writing style.

Review of Max W's Carry It Forward: Architect Disaster?

I am glad that Max built a nice and simple Rehab Center. I also had lots of fun with this project. With my group, when we planned, designed, and made the building, I actually felt we gathered very well. I want to thank for my group members that tried to understand each other, respect ideas of others, and built an excellent library in the world. I see how he had fun with this project as I did and learned a lot with this project. I can feel how Max feels in this project. I guess most of people who did this project felt the same thing. When we finished this building, I was so happy and proud of what we have producted. It was such a fun project.

Max W's main idea was how he had fun during the Architect project. He enjoyed working with the group and I am glad that Mr. Allen liked the "simple" Rehab Center, which Max was worried about the building was too simple.

Metacognition: Frank Gehry project

In class, we watched the film about Frank Gehry. We had a project that is about making a given type of building. Our group was assigned to build a library named Eaton Rapid. My group gathered together and make our group name as Design Arc. We got the name from Noah's Arc, it means like Noah's Arc, we bring things together to build a creative building. Then we set our own rules for the project, and we assigned our role for the team. I was in the design team with other two.
As the client wanted to be, we designed the builing open and inviting environment so we designed the building circular and we have the front with a court yard and made anyone can come and sit there or exercise whatever you want to do. The court yard is open but we still need to close somehow so we decided to put glass wall surround the building. The building is oval kind of shaped and the roof is the shape of book, so people can tell it's library from the distance.
The inside is designed with two floors. The first floor is open area for every one. we put the couches, smoothie stands, tables and children daycare center. The second floor, we put books, computer room, and tables to study.
We have quiet study areas, they are individual spaces for people who want to have comfort and quiet environment.
The setting of this library is by ocean in California. So the view is great and so the weather is. This was the fun project we did in class. My group was great. We had open discussions and everyone had great ideas for the building. I had lots of fun working this project with them.

Best of the week : Mindbook assignment

we had a mindbook assignment that was due on Thursday. It was about choose a masterpiece of postmodern artist, write a short biography of that artist and reinterpreting with my own style. i chose the painting of Picasso's, "Les Demoiselles d' Avignon".
First, I looked closely to the painting to get the idea what Picasso's trying to show in the painting. I figured out that their face expressions are look sad and mad. Also they are too close to each other so I got the expression of they are not comfortable in the situation. The interest thing in the painting was, out of five women, two women are wearing masks those are look funny.
When I researched about Picasso, I found out that he was influenced by the African art. He had very interesting art style, life and thinking. It was a pleasure to search him and learn more about him. Also when I reinterpret the painting, it was harder than I saw. You know, Picasso's paintings are always have impression of draw with his eyes closed. But actually when I tried to draw it, it was hard. I couldn't draw that feeling and texture of the painting.
This mindbook assingnment was most fun assignment I did.

Metacognition: Humanities ?

The humanities are academic disciplines which study the human condition, using methods that are primarily analytic, critical, or speculative, as distinguished from the mainly empirical approaches of the natural and social sciences (Wikipedia). It is the definition of humanities. Last year, my senior friend strongly recommended humanities for senior English class. I was fascinated with the "cool-looking" mind book, and that is the only reason I decided to take humanities. The other senior friend told me that humanities is not just English class, she told me that humanities is the hardest class she ever took in senior year, and I knew that she was taking few AP classes. Yes, that's right I didn't listen to her. I was sure that the class is easy because it's the senior class. But I was wrong. I don't regret that I am taking humanities because I learned a lot but it is the hardest class that I am taking right now. Well, surely we are learning very interesting stuff like listening to very different style of music, watch various video and video clips, interesting books and articles, different style of writing, and mind book! I improved my skills of writing, reading, and be a creative thinker.
Especially my favorite is doing mind book. Sometimes I have thoughts that I cannot tell anyone because I am too scared to be a weird person. But while I was doing my mind book, I discovered most of my thoughts are really creative and I am not that weird. It was good that I can express my thought and myself freely.

Metacognition:Thirteen ways to looking at an Apple.

In the class on Friday, our group was gathered for a poem project. To write a poem like Thirteen ways to looking at a blackberry we read in the class the other day. Overall, this activity was fun! But if I knew what we were doing for the project, and if I prepared, I would be better than what I did on Friday. I am not really good at create a poem in few minutes. But it was so fun to work with my group! They had the greatest idea and lines of poem of all. I was jealous of their creativity and I hope I can be like them.
