In class, we watched the film about Frank Gehry. We had a project that is about making a given type of building. Our group was assigned to build a library named Eaton Rapid. My group gathered together and make our group name as Design Arc. We got the name from Noah's Arc, it means like Noah's Arc, we bring things together to build a creative building. Then we set our own rules for the project, and we assigned our role for the team. I was in the design team with other two.
As the client wanted to be, we designed the builing open and inviting environment so we designed the building circular and we have the front with a court yard and made anyone can come and sit there or exercise whatever you want to do. The court yard is open but we still need to close somehow so we decided to put glass wall surround the building. The building is oval kind of shaped and the roof is the shape of book, so people can tell it's library from the distance.
The inside is designed with two floors. The first floor is open area for every one. we put the couches, smoothie stands, tables and children daycare center. The second floor, we put books, computer room, and tables to study.
We have quiet study areas, they are individual spaces for people who want to have comfort and quiet environment.
The setting of this library is by ocean in California. So the view is great and so the weather is. This was the fun project we did in class. My group was great. We had open discussions and everyone had great ideas for the building. I had lots of fun working this project with them.
That's cool Dasom! I remember that project. I really liked your group's library because it was unique and delivered well. I thought it depicted a nice learning environment for readers. This would definitely attract people to visit the library more often. I thought it was wonderful and the design of the arc was nice. It would be nice to have something like this in Glenview :)
